2011-12-14 - New MV equipment to provide a more reliable energy supply
Zurich, Switzerland, December 14, 2011 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a R98 million order from Sasol, the integrated energy and chemicals company, for the replacement of medium-voltage switchgear at four substations in Secunda, Mpumalanga Province.
The order involves the engineering, supply, installation and commissioning and the associated cabling of approximately 117 Unigear ZS1 Switchgear panels during the proposed eight day shutdown in September 2012. ABB was awarded the order based on the high safety and operational requirements as well as the performance on previous contracts which had tight deadlines and complex interfacing with existing plant infrastructure.

The replacement of the switchgear is part of Sasol’s strategy to ensure that they are able to meet their production demands and ABB has invested in service capabilities at Sasol in Secunda and in project management at its head office in Longmeadow which has helped to meet the above-mentioned demands.
The panels will be supplied from the state-of-the-art manufacturing site at Longmeadow in Modderfontein. The Unigear ZS1 will incorporate the new REF 630 relays which forms part of the Relion® range and has IEC 61850 certification.
