2009-10-30 - ABB South Africa has won a top energy efficiency performer award in the industrial category of the Eta energy efficiency Awards sponsored by utility Eskom and in association with the Department of Energy.

The prestigious Eta awards, celebrating their 20th anniversary, are awarded in recognition of superior performance, creativity and innovation in energy efficiency.

ABB received the award at the awards function in Bryanston, Johannesburg, presented by the CEO of Eskom, Jacob Maroga. The award was one of three presented in the National Energy Accord category run by the National Business Initiative for outstanding performance in energy efficiency. The winners of the Energy Accord Category of the Eta awards were:

  • First Rand - Commercial Category
  • ABB - Industrial Category
  • Anglo Gold Ashanti – Mining

The judges praised ABB for its energy efficiency building at Longmeadow, Johannesburg, and its use of its own energy efficient technologies as well as lowering environmental impact. Earlier this month ABB also received a letter of congratulation from the National Energy Efficiency Agency of South Africa, praising the company for the lead that it has taken in energy efficiency specifically at its Longmeadow head office, and manufacturing and logistics centre.

The energy efficient Longmeadow building will be inaugurated on 12 November 2009 by ABB Chief Executive Joe Hogan.
