Issues and insights into the Automation and Power industry

2009-11-26 - Automation and Power World 2009, a technology event being held by ABB for the first time in South Africa, will tackle some of the most talked about issues industries face with the energy crisis, including energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Key topics that will be raised at this event include; ABB’s experience in water and waste- water, improved utilisation of substations, power distribution for industrial applications, High-Voltage Direct Current [HVDC] energy efficient products, global trends in medium voltage switchgear maintenance philosophy and a discussion on advanced contactor technology, which will introduce one of ABB’s new product offerings.

Ian Langridge, Global Energy Manager at Anglo American, will discuss at the conference the value and importance of energy efficiency and how this impacts the mining industry. His presentation will look at both the pitfalls of bad planning and solutions to reducing energy costs through innovative energy efficient technologies.

The presentations and workshops will be run by leading global experts and will be validated by the South African Institute of Electrical Engineering (SAIEE).

During the event, ABB’s Longmeadow Head Offices, which began its phased-in move from June 2009, will be inaugurated by ABB Group CEO, Joe Hogan on the final day of Automation and Power World 2009. Longmeadow, a green building incorporating the latest ABB technology, comprises ABB South Africa's head office, manufacturing and logistics centres.
